GObike is excited to start accepting applications for our Youth Bike Giveaway Program!
The events of the past couple years have brought to the forefront how invaluable community, wellness, and the joy of play are to the quality of our days, months, and years. Through our Youth Bike Bank, we aim to provide bicycles and safety resources to up to 200 children living in low-income households in the City of Buffalo, build equity by providing personal mobility and access to free play, and encourage behaviors that will lead to improved long-term health outcomes and quality of life.
Once an application is accepted, bikes along with helmets, lights, and locks will be provided. Applicants are responsible for distributing the bicycles to the intended youth (under 18 years of age). Each applicant will also receive a basic set of tools, a pump, and safety information to help keep the bikes they distribute in good operating condition and keep the bicycle recipients safe on the road. The applicant or a representative must complete a training (provided by GObike staff) on how to dispense and maintain the bicycles that they receive for distribution. Approximately 6 weeks after the bicycles are distributed to the intended youth the applicant will be asked to complete a quick follow-up survey.
Community groups, nonprofits, well-intentioned community members, and organizations in the city of Buffalo are encouraged to apply. If you know someone that might be interested in giving bikes away feel free to forward this email along.
Please note, this is not necessarily for individuals or families to apply for one-off bike donations. If you’re interested, please work with one of your local entities suggested above to complete an application as a group.
Requests will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants will be responded to via email within two weeks of submitting a request. We may contact you to obtain further information. We anticipate bikes will be available for distribution in early March 2022. Bikes are subject to availability and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Submit applications as soon as possible, and before March 1, as bike supplies are limited and given away on a first come first served basis.
