Job Description

The GObike Planning Manager works as part of our planning team to support the organization’s place-centered and people-based programs and planning initiatives. The Planning Manager will oversee projects focused on complete streets education, design, and implementation; trail and greenway planning and implementation; active mobility planning; and transportation demand management throughout the Western New York region. The Planning Manager is a dynamic position with exposure to all facets of GObike’s work, including community engagement, physical project implementation, data analysis, plan development, relationship building, and thought leadership.

 

This position reports to the Planning Director. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead project teams in the development of technical reports and presentations in support of complete streets, trail and greenway projects throughout WNY.
  • Manage GO Buffalo Niagara program staff and assist with transportation demand management planning efforts, such as TDM proposal development.
  • Develop and lead direct community organizing processes, including, but not limited to canvassing, organizing and facilitating internal meetings, presenting to groups online and in-person, tabling, calling and emailing, within neighborhoods of focus and proximity to projects across WNY, including some evening and weekend commitments.
  • Maintain strong relationships with municipal, agency, and non-profit partners, along with grassroots leadership, community activists.
  • Prepare memos and technical reports, analyze transportation data and communicate results.
  • Conduct research of case studies and up-to-date best practices for complete streets, trail planning and maintenance, active mobility planning.
  • Prepare maps and complete GIS spatial analysis to support planning and advocacy reports.
  • Conduct fieldwork and site visits for planning projects.
  • Manage project deadlines and deliverables, and communicate project statuses to the Planning Director.
  • Support business development and proposal writing.
  • Support community organizing and outreach activities by managing and scheduling stakeholder meetings, hosting workshops, and promoting events.
  • Assist planning team with implementation of workforce development training and coordination focused on complete streets quick build projects.
  • Assist with on-site implementation of complete street quick-build projects.

 

The GObike Planning Manager should have:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in urban planning or related field and 1 year of experience, or at least 5 years of experience in a related position
  • Experience with transportation, Census, and geospatial data analysis
  • Creative problem-solving and communication skills
  • An ability to independently troubleshoot challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to work across racial, ethnic, gender, orientation, class, and ability differences
  • Personal commitment to active transportation (biking, walking, and transit) and interest in promoting these activities to others
  • Commitment to work collaboratively with staff, partner organizations, and public offices
  • Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, web-based file systems (i.e. Google Suite), and virtual meeting software (e.g. Zoom, Teams, Google Meet)

 

Additional skills that strengthen applications, but are not required, include:

  • Experience using Remix design software (or similar)
  • Traffic engineering education or professional experience
  • Trail planning or management experience
  • Transportation demand management (TDM) policy and program experience
  • AICP Certification

The position is full time (40 hours/week) and starts immediately. Compensation is $60,000-$65,000  annually, plus benefits, including fully employer-paid health insurance, generous paid time off, and a flexible work format. Salary is commensurate with experience.
