The following is taken from the RWP website. It is meant to get you past the closed park itself in the safest way possible, utilizing side streets where there are not bike facilities on Niagara Street:

While Ralph Wilson Park is under construction, there will be a detour for the Shoreline Trail. We anticipate the detour will be in effect for the duration of construction – through Q3 2025. The Gilbane construction team will be posting signage to direct cyclists soon.

In partnership with GObike Buffalo, we have recommended the following detour routes:

For cyclists going south along the Niagara Street Cycle Track:

  • Continue along the Shoreline Trail until Porter
  • Turn east on Porter
  • Turn south on Busti
  • Turn East on Hudson
  • Turn south on Niagara

OR

  • Continue south onto Busti
  • Turn East on Hudson
  • Turn South on Niagara

For cyclists going north on Niagara Street from downtown:

  • Turn West on Hudson
  • Turn North on 7th Street
  • Turn West on Porter
  • Turn North onto the Shoreline Trail

OR

  • Turn West on Hudson
  • Turn North on 7th Street
  • Stay on 7th as it becomes Columbus Parkway @ Porter
  • Turn East on Massachusetts
  • Turn North on Niagara
  • Mount bike lane on curb @ Hampshire
  • Use traffic light to cross Niagara and re-enter Niagara Street Cycle Track

The Shoreline Trail runs from Buffalo Harbor State Park north through downtown Buffalo to North Buffalo, Tonawanda, and beyond.

Please know this isn’t forever. The Ralph Wilson Park is going to be INCREDIBLE when complete in a couple of years. Check out renderings below:
