UPDATE: We have added new graphics to make the specifications for each intersection more clear and easy to develop a concept for. We have also extended the application deadline to April 10, 2026. Thank you for your interest!
GObike, as part of the Clean Mobility Buffalo partnership, is seeking proposals from artists and designers across Western New York for a unique public art opportunity: the installation of a mural within the street (Asphalt Art) to demarcate new pedestrian space at three intersections.

GObike project in Niagara Falls, 2022
The commissioned mural will be installed along Michigan Avenue at the intersections with Best Street, Riley Street and Laurel Street, establishing new pedestrian spaces to improve safety and access to the local businesses and neighborhoods. This project is working with and for the community championing a shared vision for a cleaner, healthier, and more connected East Side, identifying current transportation challenges and introducing innovative, environmentally friendly, and health-conscious alternatives for all.
About the Project
GObike has led an extensive community engagement and design process to re-orient the identified intersections. Through this effort we have developed a community supported design and have been permitted by the City of Buffalo to install temporary measures to improve the corridor for the people who live there. Cities and citizens around the world are recognizing the potential of art to reimagine roadways, improve street safety, revitalize public spaces, and bring communities together. To this end, GObike is looking to hire a local artist to bring public art to the new spaces that will be created by re-orienting the existing intersections.
