Job Description

The GObike Communications Director (CD) will work directly with executive leadership on thought leadership and strategic direction to develop a communications plan for the organization at a pivotal moment of growth. The CD oversees all communications efforts including marketing, media relations, and digital content strategy to support the organization’s people-centered programs, advocacy, and planning initiatives. The CD will execute communications planning in a highly coordinated fashion to ensure clear, consistent, and accurate brand impression. The CD is expected to work closely with the executive director in response to crises or changes.

This position reports to the deputy director.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work closely with executive leadership to develop and execute an annual communications and marketing plan to broaden awareness of GObike’s mission and programs across key audiences

  • Work with staff to plan, collect, edit and publish content to promote community workshop programming, planning initiatives, membership and donations

  • Manage and review all messaging, both internally and externally, to ensure that GObike’s communication is consistent across all platforms and adheres to sponsorship and grant-related communications requirements

  • Manage vendors and freelancers to develop brand-aligned marketing materials, including videos, graphics, and reports

  • Manage media relations, press releases, media advisories, and story pitches

  • Develop and execute monthly communications schedules, including weekly social media posts, monthly newsletters and website content updates

  • Supervise the Community Engagement Coordinator and implementation of direct outreach activities

  • Review and support the development of outreach and engagement strategies for planning initiatives

  • Monitor GObike’s presence and perception on a variety of online forums, including social media, printed news, television, etc

  • Track and report monthly and annual performance, including audience growth, impressions, engagement, and other related indicators

The GObike communications director should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing or related field

  • 5+ years communications experience

  • Experience managing supporting staff or internship positions

  • Demonstrated ability to take information and strategic direction, understand the specific audience, and quickly produce tangible communications that are in direct alignment with organizational goals

  • Demonstrated ability to work across racial, ethnic, gender, orientation, class and ability differences

  • Personal commitment to active transportation (biking, walking, and transit) and interest in promoting these activities to others

  • Commitment to work collaboratively with staff, partner organizations, and public offices

  • Comfort working with executive leadership

  • Comfort using word processing, spreadsheets and web-based file systems (i.e. Google Suite)

  • Comfort managing social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

Position starts immediately. Compensation may range from  $38,000-46,000 annually, plus benefits, including health insurance, paid time off, and flexible work format. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
