Bike community, we need your help! There is a giant hole in the Shoreline Trail.
Please be aware, there is a giant hole in the Shoreline Trail, creating an impasse between Aqua Lane and Riverside Parks.
This portion of the Shoreline Trail is under Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forest management. GM is fixing a water line, thus the hole. There is no detour information available nor any indication of when the trail will reopen. GObike and the Niagara River Greenway Commission have tried to confirm the repair and inquire when the trail will re-open to no avail.
Our suggested re-route, when headed north, is to take the pedestrian bridge to cross over to River Road. You can return to the path at Sheridan Drive/Aqua Lane. If headed south on the trail, cross over to River Road at Sheridan Drive/Aqua Lane. Cross over the pedestrian bridge at Riverside Park to return to the trail.
This isn't the first time unannounced construction on the Shoreline Trail has shut down the path without warning. We'd like these projects to be communicated prior to construction with timelines expressed.
Can you help? Please contact Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz and let him know what an inconvenience this is. Please encourage communication in the future of projects that make the path impassable.
Email Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. Call his office at (716) 858-8500.
