Buffalo Bike Tours is proud to announce the release of Bike There! 5 Self-Guided Buffalo Tours by Bike, coming May 7th. The tours, which are accessible through the Ride with GPS app, are free of charge (tips are greatly appreciated!).
Each tour includes cue sheets, curated landmarks, historical and interesting stories, photos, and hyperlinks with more information. The project was created, in part, as a response to the COVID-19 crisis and to promote exercise, celebrate our great city, and instill social distancing. Using the Ride With GPS app, users can use their smartphones and follow along to programmed routes grouped around themes, conveying historical information about various Buffalo landmarks. A PDF of the routes and printed copies designed by Buffalo artist and designer Julian Montague will be available in June.
“This year is going to be rough for tourism in Buffalo and we’re not likely to do many bike tours”, said Buffalo Bike Tours owner Marc Moscato. “But we’re excited to make some of our content free to everyone to enjoy during these hard times.”
The project is made possible with the support of the Niagara River Greenway, which actively works with GOBike and other cycling advocacy groups to promote opportunities for every community to explore our Niagara Region by cycling and walking on safe, attractive trails.
Greg Stevens, Executive Director of the Niagara River Greenway Commission said, “Bike There, Buffalo! aims to help the public realize the diverse opportunities for urban adventure. This also connects to our work on the Empire State Trail, completing trail connectivity between towns and cities. We are proud to support this project and look forward to expanding recreational opportunities throughout the region”.
Routes will be released each Thursday and will be emailed to all those who RSVP (at buffalobiketours.com). The schedule is as follows:
Participants can access routes by registering here. Buffalo routes all start from and return to Buffalo Bike Tours’ Canalside Kiosk (1 Naval Park Cove, Buffalo, NY 14202). Participants must bring their own bikes however rentals are available through Buffalo Bike Tours.
