Bike Lane Request Form and PhotoVoice Project

You can help make our streets safer and more accessible for biking (and probably walking and taking public transit too!)  In an effort to continue the push for more Complete Streets, we recently launched a Bike Lane Request Form and Survey in order to hear from you–the cyclists and potential cyclists–about the need for more bike lanes and paths in our city, as well as which streets in particular you want to see improved.

In addition to saying “We want more bike lanes!” you can also send us photos of unsafe streets or intersections with a couple of sentences describing the photo and what improvements could be made. You could also send examples of excellent streetscape design so we know what we need more of.

Sure, this would be great, however, people need to obey the laws of the road as a motor vehicle.

This means riding on the correct side of the road, going with the flow of traffic, ESPECIALLY on one-way streets, NOT against it. Not having earphones or headphones on listening to music. Wearing appropriate clothing and lighting their bicycles for evening rides.

Until cyclists follow the rules, they won’t be respected on the roads, even if they have a designated bike lane.

Cyclists definitely need to obey traffic laws and ride safely as a non-motorized vehicle.

We at GO Bike are trying to positively influence bicycle culture in a number of ways, including educating bicyclists about safety and laws.

Not all drivers are safe or courteous to other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Many do not realize how incredibly dangerous driving a 3,000-pound machine at moderate to high speeds is. Everyone–drivers and cyclists alike–need to respect each other and Share the Road.
