On Friday, August 3rd GO Buffalo and GO Bike Buffalo teamed up with Allentown Association’s First Friday Artwalk and Buffalo Infringement Festival to bring you Artists & Cyclists–a car-free thoroughfare for people to walk or bike freely to shops, galleries and events.
Allen St. was closed to all motor traffic between Franklin and Delaware! We demonstrated that commerce and entertainment can exist in an auto free environment.
Other cities around the world have monthly car-free events, and this re-imagination of our urban environment is perhaps best exemplified in the U.S. by New York City’s choice to close off part of Broadway to traffic permanently!
Leaving the street free of motor traffic greatly decreases nasty emissions, gridlock and parking hassles while encouraging foot and cycle traffic, therefore human interaction, healthy lifestyles, fluid commerce and a sense of progress for city planning in a quickly changing economy that is greatly leaning towards alternative forms of transportation.
Attendees of the Artists & Cyclists event were able to get a bite to eat, visit local galleries, be entertained at Infringement performances and experience the joy of walking and biking down a car-free street! We hope to bring you more of these events in the near future.

I want to support ways to help bicyclists who encounter bad drivers and those unsympathetic to bicyclists on the roads. Esp. if an accident occurs at the fault of the automobile driver and there is little to no recourse for the biker.
Awesome, thanks Marilyn. Can you provide legal representation? Were you thinking about some kind of educational campaign? There are some folks working to make cycling safer all across the U.S., including Buffalo: check out bikesafebuffalo.com
